Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Psychosocial rehabilitation is a treatment approach designed to help improve the lives of people with mental illness. Its goal is to teach them emotional, cognitive, and social skills to help them live and work in their communities as independently as possible.

Regardless of the form psychosocial services take, key goals include helping people feel:

Empowered – Each individual needs to feel capable of setting their own goals and have the power and autonomy to pursue them.

Hopeful: People may feel demoralized as a result of their condition. Rehabilitation focuses on helping clients feel hopeful about the future.

Rated: Rehabilitation aims to teach people skills to help them manage their condition and live the life they want to live. This includes life skills, job skills, social skills, and others.

Supported – Mental health professionals offer support and help clients build relationships and social connections in their community.
